Greetings all who wrestle for the Kingdom.
Nobody knows the time …
I write the Update in bits and parts over the course of the month. A story of healing captured here, a thought for teaching scribbled there. Sometimes the story evolves and that is what happened this month.
The last story in the Reports section below was written two weeks ago. It is about a young man who was following God’s direction and reconciled with his Aunt as a result. Last Wed. night he told us the rest of the story. A week ago Sunday his Aunt died. The Aunt’s mother found her daughter dead, on her knees with her hand on her Bible. The young man was talking to the Mother a day later and the Mother thanked him for stopping by two weeks prior to visit with the Aunt and share what God was doing in his life. The Mother then told him that the meeting had a profound impact on her daughter and as a result she had come back to the Lord and was pursuing Him with zeal and love. The young man was stunned, to say the least.
He thought it was a crazy idea to stop by. He had a number of reasons why it would not make sense and should not go. He also felt deep in his heart that God was directing him to go so he obeyed. What was the impact of this small act of obedience? We will not know the full story until we gather for show and tell in heaven but at a minimum he was restored to relationship with someone just before she passed away and it blessed him and it blessed her and it blessed her family.
What is the impact of our obedience? We may never fully know but God does and He weaves it all together to bless us and to bless the Kingdom.
As a family we have been sharing about the listening relationship with God for over fifteen years, Claudia was living it for decades prior to that, and it is still exciting to hear how God moves in response to our hearing and obeying. We serve an awe producing God.
Another thought here is a reflection on my Tribal past. I grew up in a religious culture that, whether intended or not, made me feel guilty if I was not “sharing the Gospel”. I know many people who have come into proper relationship with God through guilt driven activity but what a blessing to operate out of obedience and not guilt. There is freedom without the weight of guilt because we can trust that God will direct us to the people who need ministry at the point they need it. Trusting Him and His direction, obeying even when it does not make complete sense and watching the exponential results flowing from that obedience is a thriving way to live.
Pray and ask God to show you today ways to walk more fully alive in Him. He will show you if you ask.
Thank God also for these additional reports …
REPORTS: • A woman was discouraged about her newborn child and was asking for prayer that God would take the child home. Instead, intercessors prayed for healing and now the little girl is home and healthy. We bless you Father for people who believe Your Word above the circumstance. • A man with Kidney failure now reports all the numbers are improving and going back to normal … a medical impossibility. God, nothing is impossible with You • A woman came to the “W” for prayer for her marriage. The situation has not yet improved but her peace and joy has increased to the point that others are commenting about how good she looks. Thank You Father for peace. We continue to look to You for completion of the healing of this marriage. • A young woman was in the ER with a friend and she felt that they should pray for the man in the area right next to them. The doctors had given the family a very bad prognosis and they did not expect him to come out of his coma. She asked if they could pray and by the time the doctors returned the man was awake and functioning normally Father, thank You for prompting your daughter to pray and for answering her prayers to bless a family she did not know. • A woman who had smoked for over 16 years is now free from the addiction. Yes and amen to freedom in Jesus. • A woman was with Fibro Myalgia reported last week that she has been free of pain for over a year now. We bless you Healing Lord. • A story came in about a Grandfather who had made racist comments about the woman his grandson had married. His comments had fractured the family. Two weeks ago his Granddaughter led him in a prayer of salvation and he later came and apologized to the Grandson and his wife beginning the restoration process for the family. Father, we all need a savior and are blessed when lives change that touch Jesus. • A Pastor who is a part of the WWT sent a note thanking us for what we are doing. It has been a blessing and an encouragement as he has begun to “pray differently” at his Baptist Church. Lord, let Your truth rise and bless Your people. • A young man’s name was sent to the “W” and we prayed for him. He was suffering severe anxiety attacks and was sent to an institution. We just heard back that he is doing so well that he is going back to school this week. We bless You Father for healing from afar. • A husband we have been praying for at the “W” for over two years came for the first time two weeks ago and asked for prayer to heal his marriage. He came with his wife. The seasons and times are in Your hands Father. Thank You for this positive movement. Heal now to the uttermost we ask in the name of Jesus. • A young man was led by the Holy Spirit to go to a number of places over the course of a day; the last one was to go to his Aunt’s house a few doors from where he lived. The relationship had been strained but as he obeyed the Aunt softened and the relationship was restored. God, thank you for leading us in ways that cause restoration and reconciliation.
A person on the Wrestling Team asked last week “how can I be in the loop on prayer requests at Mars Hill”. She had heard about a Mars Hill request for prayer from someone at the “W” and had not been aware of it. There is indeed an email prayer chain that operates at Mars Hill separate from the WT. We send requests to this group all the time. Margie Brenner receives the requests and at least once a day sends out an email with issues in need of prayer and also some answers. Here is a clip from yesterday’s email; Last week, we were praying for Amy who recently fractured her skull. Here is an update, in her words... "Thank you so very very much for the prayers - that Wednesday night after the "prayer warriors" kicked in, I slept until 5 am without waking up! THAT was a miracle for me - I hadn't been able to sleep more than an hour at a time ever since the accident! It was absolutely wonderful!!!" She requests continued prayer for strength, decreased pain, and a quick recovery. Pray also for her family who is caring for her. If you would like to be added to the email distribution please send a note to Margie at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Here are some additional things to be aware of as WT members;
OPPORTUNITIES: · Pray for Rob as he completes his “The Gods are not angry” Tour. He ends up in GR tomorrow night @ DeVos Hall. · Please pray for the staff, leaders and volunteers at Mars Hill as they minister and serve during this holiday season. · There will be no “W” on Dec. 26th because the church will be closed that entire week. · The Holiday’s are particularly difficult times for many people who have had hard family situations growing up or who are facing hard situations currently. Please pray for grace, mercy and shalom for your family, friends and community.
You are appreciated and prayed for often.
